Physical health

Throughout your student journey there may be times that your physical health could be impacted and this may affect your studies and/or placement. This could be a pre-existing condition, something that develops long term or a short term illness. There is a wealth of support available to you through your university or ambulance/NHS trust placement, information on this is available from your lecturers, personal tutor, placement mentors or occupational health. Your own healthcare provider like your GP is still readily available, though if living away from home you may be required to temporarily register with a GP close to your term time address.

If requiring help out of hours please contact either 111 which connects you to NHS24 (this service is not available in Northern Ireland, instead out of hours GP services specific to your Trust area are available) or if you are experiencing an emergency dial 999.

Whilst our role is to care for others, you must always ensure to prioritise your own physical well-being. The student journey puts a phenomenal demand on your physical health with a new lifestyle, various shift patterns and often living away from home for the first time. In order to keep yourself well a good nutrition rich diet and regular exercise is very important. There are many online recipe sites available that can assist on healthy and nutritious meal planning and preparation. Your university may have gym facilities with reduced fees for students or there may be facilities near by. Even just getting out for a walk can help to keep your physical and mental health in good condition.
